Fees and Rebates

Psychological Fees – From 01/08/2026

The Australian Psychological Society recommends an hourly rate for psychological services of $330 (2026-2027 financial year). Please see following our list of fees which are well below the recommended fee.

Psychological Therapy Fees – Privately Funded

From 01/08/2026

• Clinical Psychologist: $300
• Registered Psychologist: $260
• Provisional Psychologist $140

Psychological Therapy Reports – Privately Funded

• Clinical Psychologist $300 per hour of report writing
• Registered Psychologist $260 per hour of report writing

Medicare rebates and Mental Health Treatment Plans

All of our fully registered psychologists are Medicare providers. Individuals with a Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) completed by their GP are eligible for a rebate.  This plan needs to be dated before your appointment with your psychologist. Please bring a copy of the referral and MHTP to your first appointment so we can process the rebates for you. Medicare rebates are processed after you have paid the full fee for your therapy session.

• Clinical Psychology rebates are $149.05
• Registered psychologist rebates are $101.55

Eligible clients are entitled to a rebate for 10 individual sessions per calendar year

Psychological Therapy Fees – Other Funding Bodies

• NDIS managed and self-managed NDIS Clients – fees are as per current NDIS schedule of fees. We will need written approval for psychological therapy and information about invoice and payment procedures prior to the first appointment.

• WorkCover and CTP clients who are eligible will need to have written approval from the insurer for psychology fees. Some of our psychologists are SIRA registered providers for WorkCover. Please inform the reception your appointment will be funded by WorkCover or CTP insurance.  Fees are funded by the insurer and are paid directly to Barrenjoey Psychology.

• Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) card holders who are eligible for funding for psychology sessions will need a referral from their doctor. DVA clients may be eligible for 12 sessions per year.  Therapy fees funded by DVA can be processed and paid directly to Barrenjoey Psychology after treatment.

• Psychological Access+ (PCCS) program funded by Sydney North Health Network. This is a program providing short-term psychological treatment for clients who are financially disadvantaged. All psychologists working at Barrenjoey are providers in this program. Clients who are eligible for the program will need to be referred to Access+ by their GP. Therapy fees are paid by Sydney North Health Network.

Private Health Insurance Rebates

If you have 'extras' private health insurance you may be eligible to claim rebates for psychological sessions. Each health insurance package is different and rebates will depend on extras cover schemes which can change over time. Therefore we recommend that you check with your insurer about rebate amounts. Payment for therapy sessions is made in full on the day of the appointment. We will then email you a copy of the paid invoice for you to claim from your health fund.

Cancellation Fees

At Barrenjoey Psychology we often have people waiting to see our clinicians for appointments and these clients can be offered your appointment if you cancel in good time. We send out an SMS reminder of your appointment 3 days before so you are able to reschedule this if it is not suitable.

If your appointment is cancelled later than 9am the (business) day prior to your appointment, except in the event of illness or accident you may be charged the full fee. (Note; if you have an appointment on a Monday, this means we need to hear from you by 9am the Friday before if you need to cancel.)

You are welcome to send the practice an email on admin@barrenjoeypsychology.com.au letting us know you need to reschedule your appointment if the phones are busy when you call. 

Payment methods

Payment is made on the day of the appointment via EFTPOS, cash or our Halaxy payment system with credit card details. We can process the MEDICARE rebates after your payment if we have your Medicare card details and a copy of your Mental Health Treatment Plan. The rebate will then be deposited into your nominated bank account by Medicare.
